Leadership is an attitude towards life, that ordinary people, like me and you, are used to taking or not to taking. Leadership is a kind of personal positioning towards the world regardless of any formal, political or functional context. Leadership as an attitude towards life is a specific way, chosen by a person, to express his personal identity and his being as an individual. Leadership is like many kinds of attitudes toward life or forms of personal positions; for instance: compassion, generosity, friendship, opportunism, pragmatism, etc.

The leadership term mostly is captured in the plots of heroic, mythological and historical characters. My heart usually follows after the ordinary people's leadership, whose resumes will not be taught in schools, no monument will be built for their memory, and even no article will be written in Wikipedia in memory of their legacy.

Leadership is an active and vivacious attitude towards life. It is not the owl attitude which observes life from the highest treetop branch. Leadership is a personal and conscious choice to take a stand and make an impact on the others’ thoughts, interpretations and points of view. A person who chooses to take a leadership stance creates a new view towards things, that often is not coherent with the conventional mode. He does not validate himself by relying on the opinions of great people. He is used to expressing himself from his personal beliefs and views.

Leadership, as an attitude towards life and as a form of being, expresses either a clear overview and moral framework about how to live life, or expresses a reasonable doubtfulness about the common way of thinking about things. Leadership as a form of being is in fact taking a stance regarding the way that people are used to speaking and acting. But that's not enough-- leadership as a kind of being is not just like writing a poem to be stashed in a drawer. A leader shows, declares and speaks out his opinion even though he has not been invited to give his statement. And he does it honestly and bravely. Taking an open and direct stance which is not submissive to any authority is one of the intense characters of leadership as an attitude towards life.

Leadership as an attitude towards life grants the person a deep experience of individuality and significance. But maintaining this kind of stance takes its toll: lingering at the controversy leaves one standing bare before criticism – and that is painful.

You can be a Leader

A man was walking on a street in a foreign city.

Suddenly, on his right side, across the road, he saw a person sitting on the edge of the sidewalk.

In his left hand the person held a chisel, and a hummer was in his right hand.

At his feet lay a block of stone.

"What are you doing?", the man asked the person.

"I'm chiseling a brick", replied the person.

The man kept walking,

In his left hand the person held a chisel, and a hummer was in his right hand.

At his feet lay a block of stone.

"What are you doing?", the man asked the person.

"I'm building a wall", replied the person.

"I'm building a temple", replied the person.

The man was kept walking, and his spirit was stormy…
